Saturday, October 1, 2011 On October 1, 2011 at approximately 00:43 hours Company 8 was alerted for a motor vehicle accident with rescue in the area of the 100 block of Philadelphia Road. Engine 811, Engine 815, Truck 831, Medic 891 and Medic 893 quickly responded and arrived within minutes to find a car overturned after striking a telephone poll and flipping several times. EMS Lt 891(Flack) was first on scene in his POV and advised no rescue with 1 patient who was transported by Medic 891 to a local trauma center. Units on scene E811, E815, T831, M891 & M893.
Sunday, September 18, 2011 The Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company celebrated its 60th anniversary Sunday Sept 18th, 2011 at the Level Volunteer Fire Company. Several awards and citation were given out that evening honoring just a few of our members. Amber Wainwright recieves citation from Bill Dousa president of the Harford County Fire & Ambulance Association for fire prevention. Auston Amos President of the Harford Cecil Fireman's Association presented a plaque for 60 years of service to Chief Lloyd and President Russell. D. B. Smith taught the first firemanship classes at Joppa in 1953. Pictured with D.B. Smith is Jack Cloman one of our Charter Members. Bob Thomas, representing Harford County, presented Jack Cloman with a citation for his work as a Charter-Life Member. The Ladies Auxiliary gave the Fire Company a picture of the 343 New York firefighters who lost their lives trying to help the people for the 9-11 tragedy, this picture is on display in the lobby at our main Fire House located on Old Mountain Road South. The Fire Company presented the Ladies Auxiliary with a Plaque for their support and donations of $480,000.00 over the past 58 years. Millie Henning received a plaque for her husband Richard for being a Charter-Life Member of the Fire Company, and also received recognition for being The last Charter Life member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Thursday, July 21, 2011 The members of the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company softball team have been enjoying spending their Sunday's together for many years. Although some of the faces change from year to year they always manage to have a great time playing other teams from across the area. We'd like to share some pictures of the team.
Tuesday, July 12, 2011 On Tuesday July 12, 2011 Company 8 was alerted for a reported vehicle into a dwelling on Joppafarm road in Joppatowne. Units arrived to find that a vehicle had hit a utility pole and snapped the pole in half dropping the powerlines onto the dwelling and accross the roadway. The vehicle came to rest in the front yard of the dwelling.
Wednesday, June 15, 2011 On Wednesday June 15, 2011 at approximatley 0235 hours Company 8 was alerted for a motor vehicle accident in the area of Routes 152 and 40. Arriving units found a 2 car accident involving a Harford County Sheriffs Deputy. The Deputy was entrapped in his vehicle and crews needed to use "The Jaws of Life" to remove his vehicle from around him. The Deputy was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore City. The accident is under investigation.
Friday, June 10, 2011 On Friday June 11, 2011 at 3:40 pm Company 8 was alerted for a reported auto fire at the intersection of Route 40 and Joppa Farm Road. Engine 811 arrived to find a fully involved passenger van. The fire was quickly extinguished however the van was destroyed. Units onscene Engine 811, Engine 812, Chief 8-1.
Monday, June 6, 2011 On Monday June 6, 2011 at approximately 1:50pm Company 8 was alerted to respond an engine to the intersection of Routes 24 and 924 to assist Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company. Units on scene had a motor vehicle accident with rollover and entrapment. Engine 812 and Chief 8-1 responded to the scene. One patient was flown to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore via Medivac. This intersection has had numerous serious accidents since construction has begun a year ago. The accident is under investigation.
Sunday, June 5, 2011 Minutes before 7am the box was alerted for fire in the basement of a home in the 600blk of Trimble Rd. As units went responding, communications advised they believed we had a working fire. First arriving Engine 811, advised fire showing from the basement of a 2 story dwelling. Truck 831 arrived seconds later and split up to ventilate, force entry, ladder, and search. Once inside Truck 1232(operating a hand line) and Truck 831 encountered moderate heat and zero visibility which made it stubborn to locate the basement stairs. Once outback 831's outside team located and entered a set of bilco doors. Another line was immediately stretched to that location, as this was being done, 40% of the first floor on side D flashed over. Engine 481's crew along with 831's OIC made the push and search of the basement. While other crews(1232) extinguished the first floor, fire continued to the attic space where it consumed the area. In all crews worked collaboratively to fight this stubborn fire, more than 4 lines were stretched, and Truck 831's driver and outside team opened multiple holes in the roof. Chief 8 had the Trimble Rd Command, and Lt 8-4 was the side Charlie supervisor. Crews cleared within 3 hours. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 In the mid afternoon hours of Tuesday the Box was transmitted for an apartment fire w/ 1 possibly still inside at 1002 Magnolia Woods Lane. Units from Joppa Magnolia and surrounding companies quickly responded. First arriving Truck 831 reported a 3 stroy garden style with smoke showing and 1 burned crawling out the front door. Truck 831 established the command as Engine 814 laid a supply line in, and stretched the 200' crosslay. Truck 831 laddered and conducted a search while forcing multiple apartment doors, while Engine 814 made a push on the kitchen fire. Chief 8-9 arrived and was the Division 3 group supervisor. Searches proved negative, fire was knocked in under 10 minutes and the incident was scaled back to Company 8 within 45 minutes. Companies on scene- Joppa Magnolia, Abingdon, APGFD, Bel Air Ladies Aux
Friday, May 6, 2011 Units from Bel Air, Abingdon, and Joppa Magnolia were alerted for a house on fire as a result of a lightning strike in the 1600blk of S. Tollgate Rd just minutes before 10pm. Engine 815 w/6 and Chief 8-2 hit the street in seconds along with surrounding departments. The first arriving engine from Bel Air reported a 2 story detached home w/ nothing evident, however quickly reported smoke inside, and a few minutes later upgrading the assignment to that of a "Working Fire". Engine 814 was on the air w/6, bid and was granted permission to take in the assignment. Engine 814 arrived a few minutes later and stood by a secondary water supply. Engine 815 assisted companies on the interior and Chief 8-2 was assigned "Division 1"
