Pedestrian struck by train- 808 box

Thursday, May 9, 2013  Around 12:15 pm on May 9, 2013, the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company (JMVFC) was alerted for a person struck by a train near the Joppa Road CSX railroad crossing in Joppa. Upon arrival, JMVFC Firefighters and Paramedics found an approximately 30 year old male who was struck by a CSX train. The location was on the CSX train tracks between Mountain Road (SR-152) and Joppa Road. Paramedics pronounced the patient dead at 12:23 pm. Firefighters assessed the train for any hazards; none were found. The Harford County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the incident.

According to CSX Officials, the train was headed from North Bergen, New Jersey headed to Jacksonville, Florida. The train consisted of three locomotives and twenty cars. Additional information about the train can be obtained by contacting CSX media relations at 1-877-835-5279.


   


 

Steady day for JMVFC

Wednesday, May 8, 2013  Starting at 7:47am, JMVFC volunteer Firefighters and Paramedics responded to Old Joppa Road and Jerusalem Road, in Joppa, for a motor vehicle collision. Crews found a two vehicle involved, and one person with minor injuries. The patient was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Trauma Center, by JMVFC Paramedic unit, in stable condition. The Harford County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the collision.



Shortly after clearing the incident on Old Joppa Road, the JMVFC was requested, by Baltimore County Fire Dispatch, to respond to a motor vehicle collision, with rescue, on Glen Arm Road, just west of Harford Road in Glen Arm. Upon arrival, the Firefighters from the JMVFC assisted Rescuers from the Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company with extricating the trapped patient from the overturned auto, and transferring them to the care of Baltimore County Paramedics. The Baltimore County Police Department is investigating the cause of the collision.


While returning from the rescue in Baltimore County, the JMVFC units were alerted to Mountain Road (SR-152) at I-95 for a tractor trailer leaking an unknown substance. Firefighters arrived at the ramp to North Bound I-95 from Mountain Road, to find a tractor trailer with a leaking diesel fuel tank. The Harford County Emergency Operations Hazardous Materials Team and the Maryland Department of the Environment's Emergency Response Division were requested. The JMVFC crews contained the fuel that was already on the ground and continuing to leak until Haz-Mat crews arrived. Just before 8pm JMVFC and surrounding companies were dispatched to 625 Falconbridge drive for a reported house fire. Joppa units were on scene within three minutes of dispatch and reported a small dryer fire in the basement. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and checked for extension with none found. The assignment was held to Engines 812, 814 and Truck 831.


     



 

Fatal MVC on Pulaski Highway

Friday, April 5, 2013  Early this morning JMVFC was dispatched for a vehicle accident with rescue at Pulaski Highway and Joppa Rd. Company 8 units were en-route immediately after alert, first arriving units reported one patient heavily enrapt in a small pickup truck that had overturned and struck a telephone. Suppression units arrived and quickly went to work stabilizing the vehicle and removing the roof, once the patient was accessible he was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS. Units remained on scene to assist MSP with lighting and manpower. Chief 8-1 held the Pulaski Highway command.

MVC with rescue on Pulaski Highway

Thursday, March 28, 2013  At 9:17pm tonight JMVFC was dispatched to a MVC at Pulaski highway and Joppa Road. First units arrived at 9:21pm and quickly upgraded the call to a rescue advising that there was one patient trapped and requested a second ambulance for an additional patient. Crews stretched a protection line, stabilized the vehicle and used the Hurst Rescue tools to remove the driver’s door and roof. The patient was removed to waiting EMS crews and transported to a local trauma center, one other patient was transported to a local hospital.

Two MVC's this afternoon

Sunday, March 17, 2013  Early this afternoon JMVFC was dispatched for an MVC at Route 152 and Clayton Road in the 816 box. Engine 814 and Truck 831 were both on the air for training and immediately made the response along with Medic 894. Units arrived to find a two vehicle MVC with a minor fuel spill and no patients.

While en-route to the 816 box, Engine 813 came across a separate motorcycle accident at Hanson Road and Route 152. They handled this incident with Chief 8-9 and IV-893.



     



 

Three MVC's today, two of them serious

Wednesday, March 13, 2013  The first MVC for Joppa this morning came at 8am at the intersection of Pulaski Highway and Joppa Farm Rd. E814, T831, A892 and C-81 handled this minor accident with 892 transporting one patient to a local hospital.



As units were clearing the first incident, Abingdon VFC was dispatched for a MVC with rescue at Route 24 and Wheel Rd. Since company 8 units were available they made the response to assist. Abingdon units arrived with multiple patients and a minor door pop. JMVFC assisted AVFC with patient packaging and M894 and IV893 made transports to a local hospital.

Just before 11am Joppa Magnolia and Abingdon volunteers were dispatched for a MVC on I-95 NB just past the 152 exit. C-81 (Freund) was the first to arrive and quickly upgraded to a rescue assignment. E411 and T831 arrived, stabilized the vehicle and removed hazards while E813 stood by with a hoseline for fire protection. One patient was removed from the vehicle after taking off the drivers door. Units were in service a short time later.

House Fire in Edgewood

Saturday, March 9, 2013  Just after 8pm units from Joppa Magnolia, Abingdon, Kingsville and APGFD were dispatched for a dwelling fire in the Edgewater village development. HCSO was on scene confirming a working fire. First arriving units from JMVFC were on scene at 8:06pm and reported a two story single family dwelling with fire showing; additional resources were requested bringing White Marsh and Bel Air VFC’s. Initial reports advised there was possibly a subject still in the residence so Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack along with primary searches of the residence with negative results, the missing subject was later located at neighbor’s house. Units were on scene for several hours to extinguish the fire. One firefighter from JMVFC was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center for burns received and one Firefighter from AVFC became sick on scene and was transported to UCMC.



     



 

MVC in the 801 box

Monday, March 4, 2013  Early this afternoon JMVFC was alerted for a MVC at Philadelphia Road and Mountain Road. Units arrived and found one person injured, they were transported to a local trauma center. Suppression units removed hazards and cleared in a short time.     



     



 

E814 to the 341 box

Sunday, March 3, 2013  Around 11pm the Bel Air VFC was dispatched for a house fire in the 341 box on Locust Lane in Bel Air. First arriving units found heavy fire conditions in an attached garage and initially had water supply issues with nearby hydrants. Additional units were requested bringing E814 with 6 personnel to the scene. The crew arrived and was initially established as the RIT team but shortly after assigned to assist with interior operations and overhaul. 814 was on scene approximately 90 minutes before returning to service.

Hanson Road Basement Fire

Friday, March 1, 2013  Just after 8pm JMVFC was dispatched for a house fire in the 2000blk of Hanson Road. T-831 was first to arrive with nothing evident, after forcing entry in the residence the crew found a fire in the basement. First arriving crews made quick work of the fire and all searches proved negative. Units cleared in about 90 minutes.
